Finding Care

Find a Therapist Who Speaks Your Language

Looking for a therapist in San Diego who speaks Urdu, Arabic, Pashto, Dari or Farsi — or who understands your faith? You should not have to explain your whole world before you can be helped. Rihla can help you find that person.

Searching for mental health care is hard enough in your first language. In a second one, with a provider who does not know your religion, your family structure, or what you left behind, it can feel impossible — and many people give up after the first few calls.

That is the gap Rihla Community Services exists to close. We are a San Diego 501(c)(3) serving Afghan refugees and the Muslim community, and one of the most common things people ask us for is simple: help me find someone I can actually talk to.

If you need help right now

Call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or the San Diego Access & Crisis Line at (888) 724-7240 — free, confidential, 24/7, with interpreters in more than 200 languages. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

Therapy in Your Own Language

San Diego County has clinicians who speak these languages. They are just difficult to find through a general search, because most directories do not filter well by language and many providers are not listed at all. Rihla knows the community and can help you look.

Urdu اردو

Urdu-speaking therapists in San Diego are in real demand and short supply. We help families search, call, and confirm availability.

Arabic العربية

For Arabic-speaking families across San Diego County, including newly arrived refugees and long-settled households.

Pashto پښتو

Pashto speakers face some of the narrowest options in the county. We know where to look and who to ask.

Dari دری

For Afghan families who arrived recently or years ago, and for parents supporting children born here.

Farsi فارسی

Farsi-speaking care for individuals and families, including support navigating insurance and intake.

English

Sometimes the language is fine and the gap is cultural. We help with that search too.

Faith-Informed and Muslim Therapists in San Diego

For many families, language is only half of it. You may want a therapist who understands what prayer means in your week, why a decision involves your parents, or how faith and healing fit together rather than competing.

Muslim and faith-informed clinicians do practice in San Diego. Finding them usually takes a person who knows the community rather than a search engine. Rihla can point you toward providers who will not treat your faith as an obstacle to work around.

Our vision is a community of Muslims and people of all faiths living with dignity and well-being — so if you are not Muslim and are looking for care that respects your own tradition, you are still welcome to ask.

What Rihla does — and does not — provide

Being straight with you matters more than sounding impressive. Rihla is not a licensed clinical practice. We do not diagnose or provide psychotherapy.

How We Help You Connect

01

Tell us what you need

Language, faith, whether it is for you, a child, or a parent. Whether you have Medi-Cal or no insurance at all. There is no form to qualify for and nothing to prove.

02

We help you search and call

We know the county system and the community. We can sit with you while you call, explain what a provider is asking, and help you understand your options.

03

We stay with you

Getting a referral is not the same as getting care. If the first option does not work, come back. Many families need two or three tries, and that is normal.

Where to Start on Your Own

You do not need us to begin. These are the places we point people to first, and all of them are free to contact:

Common Questions

How do I find an Urdu-speaking therapist in San Diego?

Start with the Access & Crisis Line at (888) 724-7240, which has interpreters and can refer you to county providers. Rihla can also help you search directly, make the calls, and understand what each provider offers. This help is free.

Does Rihla provide therapy?

No. Rihla is not a licensed clinical practice. We provide culturally grounded support, coaching, family advocacy, and help connecting to licensed care. When someone needs a licensed therapist, we help them find one.

Can I find a Muslim or faith-informed therapist here?

Yes. San Diego has Muslim and faith-informed clinicians, though they are hard to find through a general search. We know the community and can help you identify them.

Does it cost anything?

Rihla's help connecting you to care is free. Many clinical services are covered by Medi-Cal, and county behavioral health services are available regardless of ability to pay.

Do I need immigration status or insurance?

The Access & Crisis Line is available to anyone, free and confidential, regardless of status or insurance. Medi-Cal eligibility varies by status, and the county can tell you what you qualify for.
